Cinematographer / Director of Photography based in Paris

Working across fashion, narrative films, commercials (TV and digital), music videos, television, and visual art.

Mathis D’Angelo is a Paris-based cinematographer, collaborating with directors, artists and production teams to craft bold, sensitive and visually striking images. Their work spans fashion films, narrative shorts, music videos, and digital branded content — with a strong focus on avant-garde aesthetics and storytelling through light and composition.

Born in New Caledonia, raised in Morocco and now based in Paris, Mathis brings a multicultural perspective and a distinct visual language to every project. With a background as a 1st AC, they work fluently in both digital and film formats (including Super 16mm), and adapt seamlessly to the scale of each production — from solo DOP on agile shoots to large multi-camera or full cinema setups.

They often collaborate with trusted technicians (ACs, gaffers, grips, DITs, colorists) and are regularly commissioned by Canal+, as well as production companies and creative agencies in France and abroad.

An active member of the UCO – United Cinematographer Organisation since 2022 and of Dive+, Mathis is deeply committed to fostering inclusion and diversity — both in front of and behind the camera.

Mathis D’Angelo

Cinematographer / Director of Photography based in Paris

Mathis D’Angelo (they/them) weaves light and shadow with a bold hand — born under the sun of New Caledonia, shaped by the rich hues of Morocco, and now thriving in the creative pulse of Paris. A cinematographer and director of photography, they craft visual stories that blur the boundaries between fashion, narrative films, commercials (TV and digital), music videos, and visual art.

Rooted in the camera’s gaze — a former 1st assistant camera — Mathis combines technical precision with a poetic vision, drawn to avant-garde experimentation and the pursuit of images that are both sensitive and striking. Fluent in both digital and film (notably Super 16mm), their approach flows effortlessly from nimble solo shoots to expansive cinematic productions.

In the fashion realm, Mathis has lit the way for brands like Dior, Alexandre Vauthier, Egonlab, and Weinsanto, shaping campaigns, runway captures, and auteur-driven films. Their work, frequently commissioned by Canal+, spans commercial productions, video art, and short films across France and internationally.

Recognized for their cinematography on Emma, awarded the prestigious Prix Serge Daney 2024, Mathis embodies a profound commitment to visual storytelling.

At their core, community and ethics drive their practice. An active member of the UCO – Union des Chefs Opérateurs since 2022, they serve as the referent for the functional working group “Réseaux Sociaux & Visibilité”, amplifying the voices of cinematographers across digital platforms. Also a member of Dive+, Mathis advocates passionately for inclusion and diversity — on screen and behind the scenes.

For them, directing photography is a collective dance — a trust forged in light, a space for daring, where images become more than stories: they become experiences, emotions, truths.
